Environmental Conservation

We strive to engage in environmental conservation activities as part of our operation based on ISO14001 (since 2002) and Environmental Management System (EMS). Additionally, we promote these activities as our environmental committee shares environmental-related information with and deploys corresponding activities to all production sites.

Eco-Friendly Materials Use/ Propose

We offer eco-friendly materials such as recycled paper, forest-certified paper, bagasse paper, biomass PET, biomass PP and etc. wherever suitable or applicable to customers’ requirements.

Forest-Certified Paper

Forest-Certification System

Proper forest management is crucial to preserve biological diversity while forest is our essential resource for paper for enrichment of our lives. “Forest Certification” system is to certify products that they are made of the paper from properly-managed forests. There are various certification systems in the world, and the following systems are available in Japan:
- FSC(Forest Stewardship Council®
- PEFC (Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification Schemes)

Sustainable Forest Management

The reasons of deforestation may vary based on unsustainable forest management such as transformation to plantation, non-restorable and non-traditional burn agriculture, excessive logging for fuel, forest fire, and illegal logging.
Thus, it is necessary for us to procure from sustainable forest resources.

Forest Certified Paper and Environmental Conservation

Forest Certification is a way to protect forests, contributes to societies, bases on the philosophy of sustainable forest management, and labels the woods and products produced of and with its certification. These products are available to consumers who eventually support the sustainable management. Choosing to use certified paper or purchasing the products of such paper means to sustain the organizations properly managing forests and to participate in sustainable movement.

Forest Certification Structure

A number of different forest certified paper brands are available today. However, only the forest certified products manufactured by CoC certified printers may be recognized as such products.

Our Forest Certification

Forest Certification

We have acquired CoC certification of FSC (SGSHK-COC-006077) since 2009 and CoC certification of PEFC (SGSJP-PCOC-1561) since 2012. Thus, we can meet various requirements of customers.

Energy Saving and CO2 Reduction

We have our own energy saving committee and teams that consist of members mainly from manufacturing division to address challenges on energy saving and CO2 reduction.

Waste Management

Our operation generates tons of wasted paper. However, resource recycling system is in place, and those wastes are sorted into specific categories and properly collected to be recycled to paperboards or corrugated boards.

Educating Employees about CSR and SDGs

Asahi Printing holds study sessions on SDGs for board members, management and employees. These sessions provide employees with the opportunity to think about why SDGs are necessary and what we can do as a company to participate. Also, new employees undergo CSR training so that they can think about the role Asahi Printing fills in society from a fresh point of view. We look forward to continue actively educating employees so that each and every one can engage in SDGs.

Legal Compliance

Within our Environmental Management System, compliance with related laws and regulations is periodically assessed and verified.
We continue our efforts to reduce environmental impact by adopting more eco-friendly materials and equipment.

Green Bond

Asahi Printing issued green bonds for the first time in February 2022, as a method of fundraising for business operations that contribute to solving the problems of the environment.
We plan to use the funds raised with these green bonds to partially cover the repayment of loans that were required to construct the West Building at Kyoto Creative Park.
