  • What is RPF?
RPF (Refuse-derived Paper and Plastics Densified Fuel) is a solid fuel made from waste paper and plastics that are difficult to recycle.
It is used as an alternative to fossil fuels in industries such as paper, steel, and cement manufacturing.(Source: Japan RPF Industry Association)

FSC Certified Paper

About Forest Certification System

Forests are essential for producing paper, but they also require proper management to preserve biodiversity.
Forest certification is a system that ensures forests are responsibly managed and that products derived from them meet sustainability standards.
Several certification systems exist around the world. In Japan, two of the most recognized are:

FSC® (Forest Stewardship Council®)
PEFC(Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification Schemes)

Sustainable Forest Management

There are many causes of deforestation, including land conversion for agriculture such as plantations, slash-and-burn farming without regard for natural regeneration, excessive harvesting of wood for fuel, forest fires, and illegal logging. These factors often prevent forests from being managed sustainably.
To protect the global environment, it is essential to source forest resources in a way that supports sustainable and responsible forestry practices.

Certified Paper and Environmental Conservation

Forest certification promotes responsible forest management that is environmentally appropriate, socially beneficial, and economically viable.
It helps identify wood and paper products sourced from responsibly managed forests and delivers them to consumers, creating a system in which consumers can support sustainable forestry through their purchasing choices. By choosing certified paper, both companies and consumers contribute to protecting the global environment and supporting organizations that practice responsible forest management.

How Forest Certification Works

Certified paper products have become increasingly common in the market.
However, to be officially recognized as a certified product, they must be produced by a printing company that holds Chain of Custody (CoC) certification.

Forest Certification at Asahi Printing

Asahi Printing obtained FSC® Chain of Custody (CoC) certification (SGSHK-COC-006077) in 2009 and PEFC CoC certification (SGSJP-PEFC-COC-1561) in 2012. These certifications enable us to meet a wide range of customer needs by providing responsibly sourced paper products.

Other Eco-Friendly Packaging Solutions

At Asahi Printing, we develop and offer a wide range of environmentally conscious packaging.
Our initiatives include reducing the use of petroleum-based materials and designing packaging that is easier to recycle, all in pursuit of a more sustainable society.

Energy-Saving Initiatives and Introduction of Renewable Energy

On-Site PPA at Toyama SCM Center

At Asahi Printing, we have established the Asahi Energy-Saving Committee and Energy-Saving Teams—particularly within our Production Division, which consumes the most energy—to address issues related to energy efficiency and CO₂ reduction. We are also actively promoting the use of renewable energy, including the implementation of an on-site PPA (Power Purchase Agreement) .

CSR and SDGs Education for Employees

We conduct SDGs study sessions for executives, managers, and employees to help them understand why the SDGs matter and how we, as a company, can contribute. These sessions encourage individuals to reflect on their roles and take ownership of our sustainability efforts. For new employees, we offer CSR training to help them explore Asahi Printing’s role in society from a fresh perspective. We will continue to actively provide educational opportunities and work together as a team to advance our commitment to the SDGs.

Green Bond

In February 2022, Asahi Printing issued its first-ever Green Bond as a means of financing projects that contribute to solving environmental issues.
The funds raised were used to repay loans related to the construction of the West Building at the Kyoto Creative Park, completed by the end of July 2022.
